Germs
& Bacteria
Bacteria
are microscopic, single-celled organisms. Thousands of
different kinds of bacteria live throughout the world. Some
live in the environment, and others live on the skin, in the
airways, in the mouth, and in the digestive and genitourinary
tracts of people and animals. Only a few kinds of bacteria
cause disease.
Symptoms
of Bacterial Infections
A bacterial infection causes symptoms based on the location and type of an organism. Most types of primary bacterial infections can spill over into the bloodstream, leading to a life-threatening condition called sepsis.
Symptoms of sepsis include:
* High fever.
* Chills and shaking.
* Confusion.
* Loss of consciousness (due to low blood pressure).
Respiratory tract infections: Bacterial sinusitis may cause colored nasal discharge, headaches and pain on one or both sides of the nose, around the eyes or forehead. Streptococcus pyogenes, or group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus, causes strep throat. Usually affecting children, it causes the throat to become red and inflamed. There is throat pain and trouble swallowing, and there are often white streaks or pus on the tonsils.
Coughing and difficulty breathing are common symptoms of bronchitis or pneumonia.
Digestive tract symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are often caused by foodborne bacterial illnesses.
Urinary tract infections: Symptoms of urinary tract infections include pain on urination, hesitation, dribbling or interruption of urination. Blood in the urine may be a symptom of a kidney infection.
It is always best to Call Your Doctor if you experience the following symptoms:
* Fever of 102 or greater
* Thick, greenish mucus
* Severe headache
* Stiff neck
*Sudden onset of symptoms
Antibiotics for Infections
An antibiotic is a chemotherapeutic agent that inhibits or abolishes the growth of micro-organisms, such as bacteria, fungi, or protozoans. The term originally referred to any agent with biological activity against living organisms; however, "antibiotic" now is used to refer to substances with anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, or anti-parasitical activity.
The first widely used antibiotic compounds used in modern medicine were produced and isolated from living organisms, such as the penicillin class produced by fungi in the genus Penicillium, or streptomycin from bacteria of the genus Streptomyces. With advances in organic chemistry many antibiotics are now also obtained by chemical synthesis, such as the sulfa drugs.
Antibiotic Resistance
According
to the FDA, bacteria and other microorganisms that cause
infections are remarkably resilient and can develop ways to
survive drugs meant to kill or weaken them. This antibiotic
resistance, also known as antimicrobial resistance
or drug resistance, is due largely to the increasing
use of antibiotics. Dr. Phil, and other recent news, have been
raising the awareness of CA-MRSA
(community associated Methicillin-resistant
Staphylococcus aureus) which is alarming the public.
Testimonies
on the Antibiotic Properties of Colloidal Silver
“I find it very difficult to form an opinion on colloidal silver. On one hand, I have come across several people who swear that colloidal silver -- when used as eye drops 1-2 drops 3-4 times a day-- quickly healed their conjunctivitis or sty, or reduced the severity of pharyngitis when gargled in water, but the one study I have come across recently did not indicate colloidal silver was able to prevent bacterial growth on an agar plate. Perhaps colloidal silver is effective against viruses. So, considering all factors, if I were to make a decision, I would say colloidal silver is worth a try for a few days in cases of conjunctivitis or sty or perhaps other mild infections, but it should not be used for longer than one week at a time. The use of colloidal silver should be done under medical supervision.”
~ Dr. Sahelian
After a year of treatment with antibiotics for Lyme Disease, my doctor recommended the use of colloidal silver. Daily dosages of colloidal silver over a six month period lessened the Lyme symptoms greatly.
~ Edward W. Robinson
"According to pharmacist Ron Barns, R.Ph (Capital Drugs, Los Angeles), this makes sense because: 'Many strains of pathogenic microbes -- viruses, fungi, bacteria or any other single-celled pathogen--resistant to other antibiotics are killed on contact by colloidal silver and are unable to mutate. However, it does not harm tissue-cell enzymes or friendly bacteria.'"
~ Dr. Beck
Definitions
(For Those of Us Who are Medically Challenged)
Antibiotic - a
chemical substance produced by a microorganism, which has the
capacity to inhibit the growth of or to kill other
microorganisms; antibiotics sufficiently nontoxic to the host
are used in the treatment of infectious diseases.
Pathogens -
Agents that cause diseases, especially a living microorganisms
such as a bacterium, virus, or fungus.
Resistance -
power or capacity to resist; especially : the
inherent ability of an organism to resist harmful influences
(as disease, toxic agents, or infection).
Penicillin - Any
of a group of broad-spectrum antibiotic drugs obtained from
penicillium molds or produced synthetically, most active
against gram-positive bacteria and used in the treatment of
various infections and diseases.
Control - to
reduce the incidence or severity of especially to innocuous
levels.
Prevention - in
disease control terms includes measures designed to prevent
the introduction of a disease into areas where it does not
already exist, and improve the resistance of the population
and reduce the chances of the infection spreading, when the
disease already exists in the population.
Health - the
condition of an organism or one of its parts in which it
performs its vital functions normally or properly : the
state of being sound in body or mind <dental health>
<mental health>; especially :
freedom from physical disease and pain <nursed him back to health>.
Sustainable -
Capable of being continued with minimal long-term effect on
the environment.
Antimicrobial -
destroying or inhibiting the growth of microorganisms and
especially pathogenic microorganisms.
Salmonella - Any
of various gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria of the genus Salmonella,
many of which are pathogenic, causing food poisoning, typhoid,
and paratyphoid fever in humans and other infectious diseases
in domestic animals.
Organic -
relating to, yielding, dealing in, or involving the use of
food produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or
animal origin without employment of chemically formulated
fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides
<organic stores>.
