Malaria
As defined by Wikipedia, Malaria is a vector-borne infectious disease caused by protozoan
parasites (genus Plasmodium). Malaria parasites are transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes. The parasites multiply within red blood cells, causing symptoms that include symptoms of anemia (light headedness, shortness of breath, tachycardia etc.), as well as other general symptoms.
Although some are under development, no vaccine is currently available for malaria; preventative drugs must be taken continuously to reduce the risk of infection. These prophylactic drug treatments are often too expensive for most people living in endemic areas.
Malaria was virtually eradicated in most of North America and Europe using insecticides and environmental management. Widespread and increasing resistance to malaria drugs and insecticides has hampered similar efforts in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Thus effective implementation of traditional malaria control strategies has become more challenging, even in those regions fortunate enough to have the resources to sustain such efforts. Natural and manmade disasters have fueled malaria epidemics and reversed or slowed the impact of successful malaria control efforts in some
countries, consequently the problem remains unabated.

Symptoms
of Malaria and Common Medical Treatments
Quoting from the Kaiser Family Foundation, "People with malaria typically have periods of chills, fevers and sweating that recur every one, two or three days. When the malaria parasites infect a person's red blood cells, the person's temperature rises and the person feels hot. Then, when infected red blood cells burst, the person feels cold and shivers. Nausea, headache, fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting and diarrhea often accompany the fever. These symptoms often are mistaken for influenza or gastrointestinal infections. The destruction of red blood cells also can cause jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes) and anemia (a lower-than-normal level of red blood cells)."
"Malaria is endemic in 91 countries, affecting 40 percent of the world's population." And, according to recent WHO estimates the disease is responsible for up to 2.5 million deaths a year, many of these among those aged 5 years or younger, yet in terms of new drug development the disease is widely seen as a neglected one.
The best way to prevent malaria (or other diseases caused by mosquito bites) is to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. However, for most of us, we're not even aware mosquitoes are around until we've been bitten; children are even more susceptible. Both Dr Charlie Easmon and Mount Sinai Hospital say, the best ways to avoid mosquitoes are denying them the opportunity to thrive near your place (stagnant water), having screens in your windows and doors, spraying of insecticide inside the house, applying insect repellent lotion on the skin, and even using mosquito nets.
According to Dr. B.S. Kakkilaya, the most commonly used anti-malarial drugs
have been Chloroquine, Primaquine, Quinine, Pyrimethamine/Sulfadoxine, Tetracyclines, Mefloquine, Artemisinin, Halofantrine, and Atovaquone/Proguanil.

Remedies for Relieving Malaria
Symptoms
·
In 1 glass of water, add 1
tsp of cinnamon powder and bring to a boil. Thereafter add a
pinch of pepper powder and some honey to it before drinking.
·
Eating grapefruit serves as an effective remedy
in treating malaria, as it contains quinine-like substance.
·
The herb chirayata, botanically known as Swertia
chirata is considered valuable in curing intermittent malarial
fevers. In 250 ml hot water, add 15 grams of this herb along
with aromatics like cloves and cinnamon and consume in the
doses of 15 to 30 ml.
·
The seeds of the fever nut plant are another effective remedy
for malaria. About six grams of these seeds should be given
with a cup of water two hours before the expected onset of the
paroxysm of fever and a second dose should be given one hour
after the attack.
·
The leaves of the dhatura plant are useful in the tertian type
of malaria fever. About two and a half freshly sprouted leayes
of this plant should he made into a pill by rubbing them with
jaggery and administered two hours before the onset of the
paroxysm.

Testimonies In
Fighting Malaria With Colloidal
Silver
Malaria and Children Diarrhea
"As a complementary observation in these AIDS-studies
also malaria and diarrhea were observed in children and the
impact of colloidal silver on these ailments. The outcome of
these observations also follow a pattern that was observed by
an American company trading with colloidal silver.
Their study
shows a person can be free from their malaria infection within
five to ten days with the support of colloidal silver. Then
you are talking about a cure, because the Plasmodium, the
malaria agent, is fully depleted from the body. In children
diarrhea, the time relapse vary from a few hours to a couple
of days, before the symptom disappears. Children diarrhea is a
big killer in Africa with several thousand victims every
day."

Congressional Testimony on the
Uses of Silver
"Our engineered silver particles have performed far beyond anyone's expectations as anti-microbial agents, against a staggering variety of microbes such as malaria, flesh-eating bacteria (MRSA - Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and E.coli.
Whether used on surfaces as disinfectants or if taken internally as supplements, all of our ABL products are non-toxic and have no known adverse human side effects. Our products have surprised many experts in the medical and science worlds because of their ability to combat bacteria, yeast, and viruses."

Definitions
(For Those of Us Who are Medically Challenged)
Epidemiology -
The study of factors affecting the health and illness of populations, and serves as the foundation and logic of interventions made in the interest of public health and preventive medicine.
Protozoa - (in Greek proto = first and zoa = animals) are one-celled eukaryotes. That implies that protozoa are unicellular microbes whose cells have membrane-bound nuclei that commonly show characteristics usually associated with animals -- mobility and heterotrophy.
Plasmodium - A genus of parasitic protozoa. Infection with this genus is known as
malaria. The parasite always has two hosts in its life cycle: a mosquito vector and a vertebrate host. At least ten species infect humans. Other species infect other animals, including birds, reptiles and rodents.
Anopheles - A genus of mosquito (Culicidae). There are approximately 400 Anopheles species, of which 30-40 transmit four different species of parasites of the genus Plasmodium that cause malaria which affects humans in endemic areas. Anopheles gambiae is one of the best known, because of its predominant role in the transmission of the most dangerous Plasmodium
falciparum.
Falciparum Malaria
- The most dangerous type of malaria. Red blood cells infected with the parasite tend to sludge and form microinfarctions (small areas of dead tissue due to lack of oxygen) in capillaries in the brain, liver, adrenal gland, intestinal tract, kidneys, lungs, and other organs.
Merozoite
Surface Protein - A protein molecule taken from the skin, or surface, of a
merozoite. A merozoite is a "daughter cell" of a protozoan. Merozoite surface proteins, or
MSPs, are useful in researching malaria, a disease caused by
protozoans.
DDT - (from its trivial name,
Dichloro-Diphenyl-Trichloroethane) is one of the best known synthetic pesticides. DDT is a chemical with a long, unique, and controversial history.
MR4 - The
Malaria Research and Reference Reagent Resource Center (MR4)
was established to provide a central source of quality

international malaria research community.
