Herpes
Herpes is a common
viral infection, and can manifest itself as an oral or genital
infection. Once infected, recurrences are not uncommon.
Oral herpes is an infection caused by the herpes simplex
virus. It is estimated to be present in 50 to 80 percent of the American adult population.
Oral herpes generally shows up as cold sores and or fever
blisters.
More alarming though, is 20 percent, over 50 million people, are infected with genital
herpes (aka herpes genitalis - sores that develop below the
waist), which are also caused by the herpes simplex virus. Studies show that more than 500,000 Americans are diagnosed with genital herpes each year,
the largest increase in recent years is occurring among young teens.
There is no cure for herpes to date. Supporting your immune system should be your first goal. A weakened immune system is more prone to outbreaks. Efforts to develop a herpes vaccine by biotechnology companies are ongoing. Until an effective herpes vaccine or cure for HSV infection is found, the prevailing approach to treatment continues to be suppressive antiviral therapy. Symptoms
of Genital Herpes
The herpes virus
begins to multiply when it penetrates the skin cells. The skin becomes red and sensitive, and soon afterward, one or more blisters or bumps appear. The blisters first open, and then heal as new skin tissue forms. During a first outbreak, the area is usually painful and may itch, burn or tingle. Flu-like symptoms are also common. These include swollen glands, headache, muscle ache or fever. Herpes may also infect the urethra, and urinating may cause a burning sensation.
Generally speaking, visible symptoms (lesions) will show up after standard prodromal symptomology (mild tingling and burning near areas where an outbreak will occur). Prodromal symptomology does not always precede an outbreak. The onset of an outbreak is evidenced by watery blisters. The herpes virus is most infectious during the blistering stage, less infectious after the blisters crust over, yet may be passed on to your partner during the prodromal stage or right after the blisters disappear.
For women, blisters involve the external genitalia (the labia, perirectal skin, foreskin of the clitoris), in addition to the vagina and cervix. It is common to have watery discharge and pain during urination.
For men, groups of blisters appear on the head, foreskin, or shaft of the penis including surrounding areas of the genitalia. Generally, herpes can show up anywhere in the pelvic area both front and back.
It is common among men and women to experience low-grade fever, headache, generalized muscle aching, and tender, swollen lymph nodes in the groin. The first visible outbreak can last anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks.
If you think you have the virus, see a doctor while symptoms are still present. The doctor will look at the area, take a sample from the sore(s) and test to see if the herpes virus is present. The test you should request is a specific virus culture or assay for herpes virus. Remember, the test will not work
and a diagnosis will not be certain if the sores have healed. Known available tests are: Cell Culture Test, Antigen test, Pap Smear.
To determine whether the symptoms you have just experienced are in fact a herpes virus, you can have two separate blood tests for herpes viruses, one for Herpes I and one for Herpes II. This will determine if herpes is present and which virus is active.

How common is genital herpes?
Results of a nationally representative study show that genital
herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide,
at least 45 million people ages 12 and older, or one out of
five adolescents and adults, have had genital HSV infection.
Between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, the number of
Americans with genital herpes infection increased 30 percent.
HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out
of four women) than in men (almost one out of five). This may
be due to male-to-female transmissions being more efficient
than female-to-male transmission.
What are the complications of genital herpes?
Genital herpes can cause recurrent painful genital sores in
many adults, and herpes infection can be severe in people with
suppressed immune systems. Regardless of severity of symptoms,
genital herpes frequently causes psychological distress in
people who know they are infected.
In addition, genital HSV can cause potentially fatal
infections in babies if the mother has sores at the time of
delivery. It is important that women avoid contracting herpes
during pregnancy because a first episode during pregnancy
causes a greater risk of transmission to the baby. If a woman
has active genital herpes at delivery, a cesarean delivery is
usually performed. Fortunately, infection of a baby from a
woman with herpes infection is rare.
Worldwide, herpes may play a role in the heterosexual spread
of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Herpes can make people
more susceptible to HIV infection, and it can make
HIV-infected individuals more infectious.
Is there a treatment for herpes?
There is no treatment that can cure herpes, but
antiviral medications can shorten and prevent outbreaks during
the period of time the person takes the medication.
COLLOIDAL SILVER
VS.
VIRUSES (A Theory of Anti-Viral Activity)
A single virus will invade a living cell within the body
tissue. Then the insidious pathogen will take over the nucleus
of the cell and alter it's production and reproduction
mechanism to replicate the virus instead of the enzyme,
hormone, or other chemical that the body would normally have
produced for itself within that cell.
Later,
the newly produced virus will be released from that cell and
into the blood stream. However, another very interesting thing
takes place. As the virus affects the cell for its own
purposes, part of the response of that living cell is that it
reverts back to a more primitive form of cell structure and
chemistry. The oxygen metabolising enzyme, or chemical lung in
the cell wall, reverts as well.
This
more primitive form of enzyme is vulnerable to the effects of
colloidal silver. The catalyst effect of the colloidal silver
simply being in close proximity to the enzyme of this cell
results in the enzyme becoming permanently disabled. It cannot
function to bring oxygen into the cell, and the virus
producing cell dies by suffocation.

Treatment - Symptomatic Relief
Several simple steps can produce some relief:
·
Hygiene is important. Avoid touching the sores. Wash hands frequently during the day. Fingernails should be scrubbed daily. Keep the body
clean.
·
Drink plenty of water.
·
Blisters or sores should be kept clean and dry with cornstarch or similar product. (Women should not use talcum powder because it may increase their risk for ovarian cancer.)
·
Some people report that drying the genital area with a blow dryer on the cool setting offers relief.
·
Avoid tight-fitting clothing, which restricts air circulation and slows healing of the sores.
·
Choose cotton underwear, rather than synthetic materials.
·
Local application of ice packs may alleviate the pain and help reduce recurrences by suppressing the virus.
·
Lukewarm baths may be helpful. (For people who have pain on urination, some experts recommend urinating in the bath water at the end of the bathing time. This dilutes the urine and prevents burning the sores. Urinating in a cool shower is also helpful and is less offensive to many people. )
·
Wearing sun block helps prevent sun-triggered recurrence of HSV-1.
·
Sex should be avoided both during the outbreaks and the prodromes (the early symptoms of herpes), which include tingling, itching, or tenderness in the infected areas.
·
Over-the-counter medications such as aspirin, acetaminophen (Datril, Panadol, Tylenol), or ibuprofen (Advil, Medipren, Motrin, Nuprin), can be used to reduce fever and local tenderness. Children should take acetaminophen. Never give children aspirin.
A Testimony In Treating Herpes With Colloidal
Silver
"I
had contracted genital herpes a few years before I heard about
Colloidal Silver. I would break out at least every 3 months,
and along with a very painful lesion, experience low-grade
fever and flu-like symptoms. I heard about Colloidal Silver
through a friend, who told me it cured her sister's herpes of
the eye. With nothing to lose, I bought a bottle from her for
$35.00. I do not know the concentration, as the label [did not
say], but the next time I broke out with a lesion, I
immediately started drinking 1 oz. every four hours. Within 24
hours, the sore was completely gone (usually it would take up
to 3-4 weeks for a sore to go away). It seemed like a small
miracle to me. I have not broken out since, and that was over
3 years ago. In fact, I consider myself cured of genital
herpes. I don't understand why the medical profession does not
know or let people know about the great benefits of Colloidal
Silver. I am a firm believer."
